“As a poet, I have been collaborating for many years with composers, musicians, and singers in orchestrating my poems for public interdisciplinary/multimedia performances that I have brought to various events and festivals in North and South America, and in Europe. These works have been in the tradition of contemporary avant-garde composers collaborating with poets, such as “Hydrogen Jukebox by Philip Glass and Allen Ginsberg.
As a poet, I do not pursue the idea that music and media are used just as a background to accompany a traditional “poetry reading.” I, rather, base my collaboration with composers on the principle that poetry, music, and media dynamically interact, respond, react to each other, in order to create an immersive experience and an “emotional presence” of the poetic word, one that goes beyond the simple juxtaposition of the disciplines and the media involved in the performance.
“”Dreams of the Man Who Never Slept”” was designed to reflect my idea of poetry performance, this idea has been adapted to a one man show for the Boulder Fringe Festival.”
