Moxie
Written by Alana Eve Burman & Teresa Sparks
A silent movie. A newsreel. An office farce. Don’t miss the show our mothers are calling “adorable” and our fathers tell us is “historically inaccurate.” Quick, hilarious and immaculately rehearsed, Moxie will answer all of your questions, provided those questions are “Does Edward R. Murrow approve of Howdy Doody’s divorce?” and “Should pinup girls know aikido?” and “Is oracular rochambeau a viable decision-making process?” Whew! Fame is a rough town.
CAST Directed by Joan Bruemmer and Pickpocket Theatre, Starring Alana Eve Burman

PHENOMENAL!!!! This show was sophisticated and smart. I laughed with and completely fell in love with all of the characters. Bravo.

The Dude  5 Stars!
Engaging, Thoughtful and best of all Funny! My fellow audience members seemed a little hesitant to embrace the show in the first few minutes but as the room warmed up the laughter got rolling and we never looked back. By the end of the show, my sense was that everyone was thoroughly entertained, had relieved much stress through laughter and appreciated a perhaps surprising emotional depth. A+

Lee Worley  5 Stars!
It was so much fun! Alana was brilliant and versatile and the whole mis en scene was clever and innovative. A fresh breeze for the Fringe.

Bill Bradley  2 Stars!
Three Stories with no connection. One of which tells the tale of a woman who goes at least 6 months with the flu though she never once coughs or sneezes writing on a pantomimed letter which read as. If she were writing on her fist, or picking her nails. Three women with no appeal, vulnerability, or growth. The only truly positive thing I could say is there was clearly an extreme amount of work put into moxie.

Ellen  4 Stars!
The poster and reviews set my teeth for something sexy and dazzling but this show is more like haiku crossed with cartoon. Alana is a strong physical actor with huge control and intensity. Costume changes are exquisite. The show is clever and quirky but needs to be tighter, quicker, more intense in delivery. The historical element is wonderful.

Sethums  5 Stars!
Spot on writing, wonderful facial expressions and a quirky yet poignant use of well constructed props. Alana is in her element and gives a confident and funny performance. See this!

Jane  5 Stars!
Great show! So glad this was one of my choices. Excellent work Alana!

Enchanting! Must see!

Mad scientist  2 Stars!
I never was captured by the story. I continued to wait for the script to get engaging. The acting was sharp with a few witty lines.

Moxie, to me is a witty, intelligent, fun and very well written Play. I saw it Last night and liked it. Go check it out and support the art.

Ami  5 Stars!
Funny, insightful and surprising with an evoking historic journey, sharp quirky dialogue, and Alanas performance ... a treat.

George  3 Stars!
Had a few moments. Good energy by the actor. Unfortunately, the story felt un-engaging, overall.

Nice work ladies! ?

Eh  3 Stars!
The show was fine in that it was well executed and clean however the script / performance never took off for me. I kept waiting to be engaged and never was.

Kat  2 Stars!
I have to agree with Bill. I thought the over-acting acting and direction was mediocre. The stories didnt win me over either. Although there were a few chuckles here and there, it seems a lot of things could have been better directed with more attention to detail.

Tickled Pink  4 Stars!
Excellent work here...there has clearly been so much thought been put into this production that its structural enthusiasm is hard to resist. Alanas performance is winning too...shes a real charmer, when given the opportunity. I look forward to seeing this develop in the future.

Gary Grundeis  5 Stars!
Great work! Witty and refreshing writing, delightful performance, fun and interesting conventions, brave and raucous!

lala  4 Stars!
Strong design elements much appreciated...Alana is engaging and enchanting. Looking forward to future work by this company.

FringeFan  5 Stars!
Great performance of such a variety of characters! Fun and humorous too!

Extremely slow paced.

HZ  4 Stars!
Sharp performance, creative and engaging. Not many still paying homage to Howdy Doody and Edward R. Morrow!

Ella  4 Stars!

djb  3 Stars!
Has some moments. Three non-connected skits. Entertaining enough, but needs a focus.

JW Magos  3 Stars!
Great acting and fantastic stagecraft! The actor and her use of innovative visual aids/props and transitions deserves an award of some kind. But... the story material was less than interesting to me.

Michael  3 Stars!
I could kind of see the general idea behind this show, and I liked it, but the show simply didnt have enough flesh on the bones to support this idea. There are some great moments, like the TV interview parodies, but thats just a few chunks of meat in an otherwise watery and bland soup. Its an hour long show with 25 minutes worth of material max, the rest is lengthy repetitive fillers. Could be great if more substance was added.

Pep & Energy? Yep. Courage & Determination? Check. Know-how? In spades! Its not every Fringe show which lives up to its snappy name, but Pickpocket Theatre got some Moxie. The shows precision had me drop-jawed again and again, almost distractingly, and serves as epitome to any show looking to see how to get it done. The script, especially the accu-chronistic language and delivery, also had me gobstopped. Witty, savvy, ribbing, and insightful of the female perspective in 3, count em!, eras

damn character limits, heres my last sentence... Moxie may be easy on the eyes, but she aint just a 2-dimensional pin-up.

Jolly Jim Dandy  5 Stars!
This was a wonderful show. The script was smart, witty, and filled with laughs. The actress was phenomenal she kept the audience mesmerized. I may go see it again on Saturday.

MzPhyz  3 Stars!
What Ellen said. Of the 3 vignettes, the first was a 5-star, funny, tight, incredibly creative silent-movie-style romp. The second WWII-era vignette was a near miss, and I felt like the production was really losing steam on the third. That said, these were more script issues. The concept is very cool, production values and performances star turn and supporting stage help are first rate. Id love to see the whole piece re-worked to the level of the first--ironic, that, given the part re

very good show enjoyed it

Frequent Fringer  2 Stars!
This show was the most recommended, and me and my five friends that went to see it all gave it a thumbs down. Cute, yes, and it seems like if the story was more developed it could have real potential. As it is, mediocre.

Fringe Lover  1 Stars!
Ugh! I wanted to like it, but was never touched. If this show gets pick of the fringe, I would not spend the money!

dianna  3 Stars!
Great visuals. Good performance. Lots of potential. The pace was slow tedious and I never felt that the actress took any emotional risks or really CARED about the characters. It all added up to a relatively clever script with a lot of mugging by a talented and beautiful actress. Needs a director. I was checking my watch after 25 minutes.
